Apples cost $2.40 for 3 lb. At that rate, how many pounds of apples can you buy for $8.00?

Divide 8 by 2.40. 

8/2.4= 3 1/3 

Multiply that by 3. (since you get 3 lbs of apples per every 2.40 you pay) 

3*3 1/3= 10

You could buy 10 lbs of apples.
