Eric has 58 stamps. Sheena gave 1/4 of her stamps to Eric. After giving 1/5 of his stamps to Raju, Eric still had 96 stamps. Find the total number of stamps Sheena had originally

Eric has 58 + 1/4 x   (where x = number of stamps Sheena  had originally).

He gave  1/5 of these to Raju  leaving him with 96 so we have the equation:-

(58 + 0.25x) - 0.2( 58 + 0.25x)  = 96

0.8*58 + 0.8*0.25x = 96
0.20x = 96 - 46.4 =  49.6
x =  248  Answer
