Subtract the right side (1) so the comparison is to zero. Then you can look at the signs of the factor(s) to see where the inequality is satisfied.

[tex] \frac{(x+4) -(x-2)}{x-2} < 0 [/tex]
[tex] \frac{6}{x-2} < 0 [/tex]
This will be true for x < 2.
