Minority soldiers were often mistreated, from simple verbal abuse, to actually physically abusing them.

White soldiers and minority soldiers were treated extremely differently on
the front lines of WWI. They were segregated in the U.S. forces, had
speech programs, and were constantly being discriminated against. What
were the speech programs? Well, since many Hispanics and Asian
Americans spoke little to no English, they were drafted into these speech
programs. All the others who were either fluent or somewhat fluent were
drafted into non-combat roles. They were also drafted into the worst
divisions and were treated poorly  compared to the white soldiers.
