Smooth muscle contains fusiform cells. This type of muscle is sometimes referred to as visceral muscle, since it is found in the bladder and small intestine where it is arranged in sheets that help to propel materials through these hollow organs. The cells are fusiform in that they are wide in the middle and tapered at both ends, causing them to take on a globular shape when contracted.
