Chloroquine is used to treat and prevent malaria. Chloroquine phosphate was discovered in 1934 by Hans Andersag. It can also be used to treat amebiasis that is occurring outside of the intestines, rheumatoid arthritis, and lupus erythematosus. The side effects are mild unless someone is allergic to chloroquine.
