to compare, you need to bring them to a common denominator by mupliplying each by the denominator of the other one.
Like this:
[tex] \frac{5*15}{8*15} [/tex]=[tex] \frac{75}{120} [/tex]
and
[tex] \frac{7*8}{15*8} [/tex]=[tex] \frac{56}{120} [/tex]
and among the two, 75 is bigger than 56, so the first fraction (5/8) is bigger!
Like this:
[tex] \frac{5*15}{8*15} [/tex]=[tex] \frac{75}{120} [/tex]
and
[tex] \frac{7*8}{15*8} [/tex]=[tex] \frac{56}{120} [/tex]
