The Statue of Liberty was given to the US by France as a gift. It was designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and built by Gustave Eiffel. It is a woman representing Libertas a Roman goodness. It is a symbol of freedom and also a welcoming sight for the immigrates who come to the US.
