At the battle of wounded knee in 1890 US Army officers tried to disarm the Sioux and then capture them.
The plan was to end these arguments peacefully. However, once the US Army officers tried to take the guns from the Natives, some of them refused to give up their arms and started shooting at the Americans, who in turn started shooting at the Natives.
