A mature ovum is released from the ovary on average every 28 to 32 days. There are millions of follicles maturing within the ovary but only few will develop into a mature ovum with the potential of fertilization. Over the course of a woman's lifetime she may release 300 - 500 mature ovum from her ovaries.
