Cross-contamination is:  The process by which bacteria or other microorganisms are transferred from one substance to another, with a harmful effect.

For example: If you have a knife or fork that touches raw meat, then you touch your own cooked food with that same knife or fork, then you get very sick. And that's how cross-contamination happens.
