The perimeter of a rectangular field is 356 yards. If the length of the field is 96 yards, what is its width?

let x equal the width.  Since the length of the base is 96 yards, multiply that times 2 for 192.  Then using the parameter formula 2w+2b=P, you get 2x+192=356.  Subtract both sides by 192, then divide by 2.
