If we want to check, solve for y for the second equation
This means get y by itself on one side of the equal sign

10x + 8y = 16
8y = -10x + 16    Subtracted 10x from both sides
y = -[tex] \frac{10}{8}x + \frac{16}{8} [/tex]       Divided 8 from both sides
y= -(5/4)x + 2         Simplified
