The total number of books is the sum of the chapter books and picture books, 11+7 =18

Thus 18 is the total number of books

If she gave away 1/3 of the books, 6 books were given away as 1/3 of 18 is 6

=> Ella gave 6 books to her cousin
11+7=18
18 books divided by 3 =6 
6*2=12 she gave her cousin 2/3 or 12/18 so 12 books
