Is the passage of dialogue written correctly or incorrectly?


"The officer said the road is closed ahead," Dad explained.
"We will have to go back a few miles, " Mom suggested.
"I'll turn around and head toward the parkway, " Dad replied. Then he added, "Can you get out the map?"

B. incorrectly

B. Incorrect. The first sentence doesn't sound right. I would have said "The officer said that the road ahead is closed." But of course that is just my opinion.
A. I think is correct because every pronunciation or grammar i see looks to be right
