Both numbers have 9 as their biggest shared factor so you take out 9:
9(3x +y)

ab+ac=a(b+c)
a is the common factor

factor each
27x=3*3*3*x
9y=3*3*y
common factor is 3*3 or 9

9(3x)+9(y)=9(3x+y)
