Add 1 to both sides of the equation:

[tex]\dfrac{a}{b} + 1 = \dfrac{c}{d} + 1[/tex]

Note that

Likewise,

[tex]\dfrac{c}{d} + 1 = \dfrac{c + d}{d}[/tex]
