illuminate Supply with or brighten with light.
stable Firmly established; not changing, moving, or fluctuating.
rotate move around a center, or axis
solar day The time that the earth takes to make one complete rotation relative to the sun. It is 24 hours.
longitude The distance in degrees measured east or west of the prime meridian; expressed either in degrees or in time. (Lines of longitude are 15 degrees for telling time.)
meridian An imaginary line running in a circle around the earth through the poles.The Prime Meridian runs through Greenwich, England.
autumnal equinox. On or about September 22, when the days and nights are equal.
ellipse An egg-shaped orbit of a heavenly body. The shape of the earth’s orbital path around the sun
galaxy. One of billions of heavenly systems consisting of numerous stars. An example is the Milky Way.
orbit The curved pathway of a heavenly body through space.
vernal equinoxThe spring equinox, on about March 21, when days and nights are of equal length.
eclipse. Complete or partial blocking of light passing from one heavenly body to another, causing the darkening of one heavenly body by a shadow.
penumbra The lightest part of the shadow (around the edges) outside of the complete shadow formed during an eclipse.
umbra The darkest part of the shadow formed during an eclipse.
Vernal means “of spring”
Total lunar eclipse when the mood is entirely immersed within the umbral shadow. In a lunar eclipse, the moon appears to be darkened because the earth is casting a shadow on it.
