why might a dictator want to be in power?

A bit of a subjective and broad question. However, I would presume it is because he is a antisocial power hungry individual who craves full authority within a nation and wants title and importance. By being dictator he gets to enforce what to do on basically anything within the country this includes: military, treasury (money), the civilians, etc.
