Explanation:
Assume:
X is the width
And 2x is the length

We know Perimeter = 48

P = 2(x + 2x) = 48
2x + 4x = 48
6x = 48
x = 8

Now we found the width which is 8
And the length is 2 times the width which is 8 x 2 = 16

Now that we have both length and width we can find the area

A = 16 x 8 = 128
