1 cup equals 1/4 cup 4 times:  1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 = 1 cup.    So you have four 1/4 cups = 1 cup.  Since you want 3 cups you have to multiply 4 x 3 = 12.  Now you have 12 times you have to fill it.  3/4 cup = 1/4 cup three times.  So add 12 + 3 and you get 15.  You have to fill the 1/4 cup 15 times to make 3 3/4 cups of milk.
