The Bill of Rights passed by the British Parliament in 1689 was held up by the colonists to support their claim stating if they are denied representation in the Parliament, they are not bound to pay taxes.
As the leaders of all the thirteen colonies sought representation in the Parliament for they were charged with numerous taxes, the idea of 'no taxation without representation' was soon reciprocated by the majority population of all the thirteen colonies.
