Solution:

First find the slope

[tex]Slope=\frac{y2-y1}{x2-x1}\\Slope=\frac{(-9)-(3)}{(1)-(-1)}\\Slope = \frac{-12}{2}\\Slope=-6\\[/tex]

Secondly, write the equation

[tex]y=m(x-xo)+yo\\y=-6(x-1)+(-9)\\y=-6x+6-9\\y=-6x-3[/tex]

Answer:

[tex]y=-6x-3[/tex]

Check:

[tex](-1,3)\\y=-6(-1)-3\\y=6-3\\y=3[/tex]

[tex](1,-9)\\y=-6(1)-3\\y=-6-3\\y=-9[/tex]

Hope this was helpful.
