X=-17/8
Step 1: Simplify both sides of the equation.
−1/2−4x=8
−1/2+−4x=8
−4x+−1/2=8
Step 2: Add 1/2 to both sides.
−4x+−1/2+1/2=8+1/2
−4x=17/2
Step 3: Divide both sides by -4.
−4x/-4=17/2/-4
=−17/8
