Electromography is a test that measures the response of muscles to nerve stimuli and is the source of the signals detected by EMG electrodes. This nerve stimulus will produce a contraction in the muscle producing an action potential. The presence, size and shape of this action potential is recorded in an oscilloscope providing us with information on the responsiveness to the nerve stimulus.
