Why did Adam Smith advise nations to allow their economies to remain as free as possible from government interference

Adam Smith, the father of economics, believed that economies free from government interference would flourish more because of his theory of the Invisible Hand. The Invisible Hand is a concept that basically says that the market is able to regulate itself inspite of individual actions. People can still make a profit without the government's help.
