A condition of the muscles whereby they become weak from disuse is called muscle atrophy. Atrophy is a weakening of the muscles that occurs after long periods where they are not used. Atrophy is characterized with decrease in the mass of the muscle. Lack of physical activity is the main reason for atrophy.
