The growth patterns of ivy wisteria and other vines that wrap around objects is an example of thigmotropism. Thigmotropism is a directional growth movement of a plant as a reaction to touch. Examples of this movement is the coiling of plants around the surface, and the opening or closing of parts of the plant such as the leaves when touched.
