To solve for a, you must isolate it.

25=a^2+b^2

First subtract b^2 on both sides of the equation.

b^2 + 25 = a^2

Now square root both sides of the equation.

[tex] \sqrt{b ^{2} + 25} = \sqrt{a^2} [/tex]

That will get rid of b^2 and make it b. Also the square root of 25 is 5. Finally it will get rid of a^2 to make a.

b + 5 = a is the answer.
