The term superman or superman was developed by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster in the year 1933. The character was then sold to Detective Comics, Inc. (known today as DC Comics) in the year 1938. Today, Superman is an icon in the American culture because it helped create superhero genres and American comic books.
