When getting the derivative of an exponential function, why do you multiply by the original function. I understand that's one of the rule when e is the base, but I can't understand why you use that for other bases.

For [tex]\frac{d}{dx} 2^{x}[/tex] why isn't the derivative
(derivative of x)(ln2) + x(0)
