It's for diabetes, it's the only way to test if you have it or not, not really from gamma rays, because it's in your blood not on your skin. Also It can be genetic but you cant test your past ancestors, and also x-ray wouldn't make sense either, there is no blood showing to test whether or not you have diabetes.
